Who would want this baby to die?

Who cares about the babies that die? Our government certainly doesn’t! It is outrageous and tragic that our government and many of our doctors don’t care. Certainly we will never see medical officials caring about the deaths of infants caused by vaccines on a regular basis. The government’s identity has grown to such beastly proportions these days that everyone who is not “them” is an enemy, even the babies.

What do medical officials really care when a baby dies from vaccine complications? What do FDA officials do to block out the guilt and pain of knowing that they caused a lifetime of suffering for a young child when they allow dental mercury amalgam (toxic waste dumps) to be put right in their mouths? Do they care about peoples’ iodine deficiencies that leave them more vulnerable to the radioactive iodine from Fukushima? Do they care about the wreck and ruin in millions of peoples’ lives suffering from the toxicity of fluoride deliberately put in the public’s drinking water supplies?

And do you honestly think they are going to care about babies dying and fetuses being underweight from the radiation exposure coming over the Pacific to the west coast of the United States and Canada? We know the radiation is there for it has been detected and reported on the inside pages of newspapers in small print that one would need a magnifying glass to read.

There now exists a new rule-of-thumb regarding the media: the less the media says about something the more dangerous it is. The thing that tells us we are in serious danger is the almost complete absence of anything in the papers about the dangers coming from Fukushima. The news is so bad that they cannot and will not print anything about it.

But now we have very disturbing reports about a 35% spike in infant mortality in Northwest cities since the meltdown in Fukushima. Dr. Janette Sherman and Joseph Mangano wrote:

U.S. babies are dying at an increased rate. The recent CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report indicates that eight cities in the northwest U.S. (Boise ID, Seattle WA, Portland OR plus the northern California cities of Santa Cruz, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose and Berkeley) reported the following data on deaths among those younger than one year of age:

4 weeks ending March 19, 2011: 37 deaths (avg. 9.25 per week)
10 weeks ending May 28, 2011: 125 deaths (avg. 12.50 per week)

This amounts to an increase of 35% (the total for the entire U.S. rose about 2.3%), and is statistically significant. Of further significance is that those dates include the four weeks before and the ten weeks after the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster. In 2001 the infant mortality was 6.834 per 1000 live births, increasing to 6.845 in 2007. All years from 2002 to 2007 were higher than the 2001 rate.

The Most Vulnerable

Infants and pregnant women are most at risk.

Doctors Alexey V. Yablokov, Vassily B. Nesterenko, and Alexey V. Nesterenko say, “When children have the same menu as adults, they get up to five times higher (radiation) dose burdens from locally produced foodstuffs because of their lower weight and more active processes of metabolism.”

“It is well known that women are more susceptible—approximately twice as susceptible, or worse—to radiation’s harmful effects than men who get the same dose. Young people are more susceptible than old. Young children are perhaps ten times as susceptible to radiation’s dangers as adults are, because their cells are dividing and establishing themselves. The cells of some organs will continue to divide; but cells such as neurons and heart muscle cells stop dividing at adulthood. Cancer can also get established at this early stage. Cancer usually requires a long sequence of cell changes to occur—often 10 or 12 or more changes in the cell DNA’s structure will have to occur, which can take many years,” writes Ace Hoffman.

Hoffman continues saying, “Infants are even more susceptible than young children. Newborns, preemies… immune-challenged… even more so. Since Fukushima, our babies are dying at a significantly increased rate on the west coast of the United States (see article below). Across the country deaths are up as well, though not as much (ibid). Fetuses vary from “infinitely” more susceptible to radiation’s dangers, to thousands of times more when they are very small, to “merely” hundreds of times more as they grow, to whatever they are at birth—no one knows precisely.”

You just imagine the masses wondering how any of this can be true. How can babies die from nuclear radiation that is supposedly the safe low-level stuff that the government and media say could not harm a fly. Well for those who are wondering, watch this most current video from Arnie Gundersen who said, “In April, the average person in Seattle breathed in 10 hot particles a day.”

Dr. Sherman was probably not surprised about the increased birth deaths because she knows what happened at Chernobyl, having been the chief editor of the book Chernobyl: Consequences of the Catastrophe for People and Nature, written by Drs. A. V. Yablokov, V. B., Nesterenko and A. V. Nesterenko, published by the New York Academy of Sciences in 2009. “Data from Chernobyl, which exploded 25 years ago, clearly shows increased numbers of sick and weak newborns and increased numbers of deaths in the unborn and newborns, especially soon after the meltdown. These occurred in Europe as well as the former Soviet Union. Similar findings are also seen in wildlife living in areas with increased radioactive fallout levels.”

Protect the Children, What Are You Waiting For?

Should the public discover the true health costs of nuclear
pollution, a cry would rise from all parts of the world and people
would refuse to cooperate passively with their own death.
                                                                   Dr. Rosalie Bertell

There are many alarming trends in pediatric care, not the least of which is increasing radiation exposure. It is now estimated that that the average child will get more than seven radiation scans by age 18 and this does not include dental X-rays. Most alarming is the increasing use of CT scans, which entail far more radiation and can raise the risk for cancer in children. X-rays of the chest, hands and feet are the most common. Forty-two percent of children had at least one radiation procedure and 25 percent had two or more during the three-year study period. Eight percent of the children got at least one CT scan, and more than three percent of children got two or more.

What we can do to save our children after they have been exposed to radiation is the most important thing a parent can learn at this point in time. We must acquire this knowledge before we or our children have been exposed, but now it’s already too late for that for a great number of people in the northern hemisphere.

Heavy Metal and Particle Vulnerability

Children are more vulnerable to the dangers of toxic chemicals than are adults, according to Herbert L. Needleman, M.D. and Philip J. Landrigan, M.D., authors of Raising Children Toxic Free. According to a study released in October 2004, conducted by the University of North Carolina, 21 percent of women of childbearing age have mercury levels in their hair that exceeds federal health standards.[1] That is up from eight percent in just four years using a recent CDC study as a reference point. Under United States guidelines, 79 percent of Inuvik women of childbearing age have unsafe levels of mercury.[2] Earlier this year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a directive warning women of childbearing age to eat no more than two meals or 12 ounces of seafood, including canned tuna, weekly.

The life period with the highest adaptability and vulnerability
to environmental factors: the period inside the womb.

Dr. Sandra Steingraber describes the particular vulnerability of children when it comes to mercury poisoning:

The placenta, which works well to bar pathogens from entering the womb, does a terrible job of keeping methylmercury out. In fact, the placenta actively pumps mercury into the fetal capillaries as though it were a precious molecule of calcium or iodine. This is why levels of mercury in the blood of a newborn typically exceed those of its mother by 70 percent. When confronted with methylmercury, the placenta functions more like a magnifying glass than a barrier. Once inside the fetal blood supply, mercury is carried to the fetal brain where it interferes with brain cell migration. Just as a spider can lower itself from the ceiling by reeling out a single strand of silk, a fetal brain cell moves from the center of the brain to the surface by rappelling along its own fiber. This process of brain cell migration begins in earnest during month four of pregnancy and continues after birth at least through the age of two. Methylmercury paralyzes migrating brain cells and thus interferes with their movement from center to surface. Methylmercury also halts cell division in the fetal brain by binding directly to neural chromosomes. The cerebellum—center of balance and coordination—is a special target of methylmercury. Prenatal exposures to methylmercury have also been linked to deficits in memory, learning, and attention span that persist into adolescence and appear irreversible. In short, human fetuses are more vulnerable than adults to the brain-addling powers of mercury for two immutable reasons: They receive a comparatively bigger exposure (because of the placenta’s concentrating powers), and their brain cells need to move and multiply.

A U.S. Environmental Protection Agency biochemist, Kathryn Mahaffey, estimates that one in six pregnant women in the United States had high enough blood mercury to damage her child, for a total of 630,000 U.S. newborns at risk.[3] This was the first study to calculate the numbers based on children’s blood levels, not the mother’s blood. The new formula showed that one in six pregnant women had mercury levels in their blood of at least 3.5 parts per billion, sufficient for levels in the fetus to reach or surpass the EPA safety threshold of 5.8 parts per billion. In 1999-2000, the last year for which government data is available, this meant that 630,000 children were at risk instead of the original estimate of 320,000.

According to Dr. Sandra Steingraber, “The EPA has taken pains not to adopt the 630,000 figure as its official position. Calculated by EPA scientist Kathryn Mahaffey, these new estimates were published in Environmental Health Perspectives, April 2004.

Children are more vulnerable than adults to
oxidative stress due to their naturally low
glutathione levels from conception through infancy.
                                                       Erden-Inal 2003

More than 100 years ago Dr. Abraham Jacobi, the father of American pediatrics, recognized the importance of and need for age-appropriate pharmaceutical therapy when he wrote, “Pediatrics does not deal with miniature men and women with reduced doses and the same class of disease in smaller bodies, but… has its own independent range and horizon.” Modern pediatrics has abandoned this wisdom as demonstrated by the fact that vaccines are not adjusted down to the bodyweight of infants.

ATLANTA – The price of preventing preterm labor is about to go through the roof.

A drug for high-risk pregnant women has cost about $10 to $20 per injection. Next week, the price shoots up to $1,500 a dose, meaning the total cost during a pregnancy could be as much as $30,000.

That’s because the drug, a form of progesterone given as a weekly shot, has been made cheaply for years, mixed in special pharmacies that custom-compound treatments that are not federally approved.

But recently, KV Pharmaceutical of suburban St.Louis won government approval to exclusively sell the drug, known as Makena (Mah-KEE’-Nah). The March of Dimes and many obstetricians supported that because it means quality will be more consistent and it will be easier to get.

None of them anticipated the dramatic price hike, though — especially since most of the cost for development and research was shouldered by others in the past.

“That’s a huge increase for something that can’t be costing them that much to make. For crying out loud, this is about making money,” said Dr. Roger Snow, deputy medical director for Massachusetts’ Medicaid program.

“I’ve never seen anything as outrageous as this,” said Dr. Arnold Cohen, an obstetrician at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.

“I’m breathless,” said Dr. Joanne Armstrong, the head of women’s health for Aetna, the Hartford-based national health insurer.

Doctors say the price hike may deter low-income women from getting the drug, leading to more premature births. And it will certainly be a huge financial burden for health insurance companies and government programs that have been paying for it.

The cost is justified to avoid the mental and physical disabilities that can come with very premature births, said KV Pharmaceutical chief executive Gregory J. Divis Jr. The cost of care for a preemie is estimated at $51,000 in the first year alone.

“Makena can help offset some of those costs,” Divis told The Associated Press. “These moms deserve the opportunity to have the benefits of an FDA-approved Makena.”

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is not involved in setting the price for the drugs it approves.

A KV subsidiary, Ther-Rx Corp., will market the drug. On Tuesday, it announced a patient assistance program designed to help uninsured and low-income women get the drug at little or no cost.

But Snow and others said someone is going to have to pay the higher price. Some of the burden will fall on health insurance companies, which will have to raise premiums or other costs to their other customers. And some will fall on cash-strapped state Medicaid programs, which may be forced to stop paying for the drug or enroll fewer people.

“There’s no question they can’t afford this,” said Matt Salo, executive director of the National Association of Medicaid Directors.

Salo and Snow said they do not know how many state Medicaid programs currently pay for Makena, which as a generic was recommended by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Aetna will continue to pay for the drug, Armstrong said, but it will be an expensive pill to swallow. Aetna currently covers it for about 1,000 women a year, so the new federal endorsement is likely to cost an estimated $30 million more annually.

Makena is a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone that first came on the market more than 50 years ago to treat other problems. Hormone drugs came under fire in the 1970s, following reports they might damage fetuses in early pregnancy. In the 1990s, the early incarnation of Makena was withdrawn from the market.

But the drug got a new life in 2003, with publication of a study that reported it helped prevent early births to women who had a history of spontaneous preterm deliveries.

These very early births produce children who — if they survive — need months of intensive care and often suffer disabilities. The cause of sudden preterm delivery is not understood, but it occurs in black mothers at much higher rates than whites or Hispanics.

The study of women at risk for this condition found that only about 36 percent of those given the progesterone drug had preterm births, compared with 55 percent among those not on the drug.

It’s believed the treatment calms the muscles of the uterus, experts said.

There is no good alternative in most cases and in the years following the study, more obstetricians, Medicaid programs and others began prescribing it. By some estimates, about 130,000 women a year might benefit from the drug. Only a fraction of them get it, but the number has been growing steadily.

One success story is Beatrice Diaz, 33, of Chapel Hill, N.C.

During her first pregnancy nine years ago, Diaz unexpectedly went into labor at about 24 weeks. She delivered a son, Garrison, who was so fragile she was not allowed to hold him for a month. Today he is in a wheelchair and has the mental capacity of a 9-month-old.

It was a shock, said Diaz, who at the time was a legal assistant in a prosecutor’s office.

“Honestly I thought the only people who had 1-pound babies were crackheads,” she said.

When she became pregnant again, her doctor prescribed the progesterone drug, a weekly injection that starts as early as the 16th week and may be given for as much as 20 weeks. She has since had two healthy, full-term baby girls, Hailyn and Alexa.

Diaz said she’s not planning to have any more children — and that’s a good thing.

“That’s an insane amount of money. I don’t know what I would do to get the money to afford it,” she said.

The Ther-Rx patient assistance program promises free injections or much reduced prices based on income. Uninsured households making less than $100,000 are eligible for a copay of $20 or less.

Ther-Rx and its parent company became involved about three years ago and acquired rights to the drug from a Massachusetts company named Hologic Inc., said Divis, who is also Ther-Rx’s president.

To get FDA approval, the company is spending hundreds of millions of dollars in additional research, including an international study involving 1,700 women, Divis said. The FDA last month signed off and gave Makena orphan drug status. That designation ensures Ther-Rx will be the sole source of the drug for seven years.

The March of Dimes, which gets hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding from Ther-Rx, celebrated the approval in a press release, saying if all women eligible for the shots receive them, nearly 10,000 spontaneous premature births could be prevented each year.

“For the first time, we have an FDA-approved treatment to offer women who have delivered a baby too soon, giving them hope that their next child will have a better chance at a healthy start in life,” said Dr. Alan Fleischman, the organization’s medical director.

As for the cost, he said the drug maker’s financial assistance program will ensure no eligible woman is denied the drug due to inability to pay.

Some doctors said they were happy getting the cheaper version from compounding pharmacies, and Aetna’s Armstrong said she was unaware of any quality concerns.

Still, doctors will use the Ther-Rx brand, in part because of legal worries.

Not that they have a choice: Last month, KV sent cease-and-desist letters to compounding pharmacies, telling them they could face FDA enforcement actions if they kept making the drug.

Published: February 25, 2011 on New York Times

Republicans in the House of Representatives are mounting an assault on women’s health and freedom that would deny millions of women access to affordable contraception and life-saving cancer screenings and cut nutritional support for millions of newborn babies in struggling families. And this is just the beginning.

The budget bill pushed through the House last Saturday included the defunding of Planned Parenthood and myriad other cuts detrimental to women. It’s not likely to pass unchanged, but the urge to compromise may take a toll on these programs. And once the current skirmishing is over, House Republicans are likely to use any legislative vehicle at hand to continue the attack.

The egregious cuts in the House resolution include the elimination of support for Title X, the federal family planning program for low-income women that provides birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and testing for H.I.V. and other sexually transmitted diseases. In the absence of Title X’s preventive care, some women would die. The Guttmacher Institute, a leading authority on reproductive health, says a rise in unintended pregnancies would result in some 400,000 more abortions a year.

An amendment offered by Representative Mike Pence, Republican of Indiana, would bar any financing of Planned Parenthood. A recent sting operation by an anti-abortion group uncovered an errant employee, who was promptly fired. That hardly warrants taking aim at an irreplaceable network of clinics, which uses no federal dollars in providing needed abortion care. It serves one in five American women at some point in her lifetime.

The House resolution would slash support for international family planning and reproductive health care. And it would reimpose the odious global “gag” rule, which forbids giving federal money to any group that even talks about abortions. That rule badly hampered family planning groups working abroad to prevent infant and maternal deaths before President Obama lifted it.

(Mr. Obama has tried to act responsibly. He has rescinded President George W. Bush’s wildly overreaching decision to grant new protections to health providers who not only will not perform abortions, but also will not offer emergency contraception to rape victims or fill routine prescriptions for contraceptives.)

In negotiations over the health care bill last year, Democrats agreed to a scheme intended to stop insurance companies from offering plans that cover abortions. Two bills in the Republican House would go even further in denying coverage to the 30 percent or so of women who have an abortion during child-bearing years.

One of the bills, offered by Representative Joe Pitts of Pennsylvania, has a provision that would allow hospitals receiving federal funds to refuse to terminate a pregnancy even when necessary to save a woman’s life.

Beyond the familiar terrain of abortion or even contraception, House Republicans would inflict harm on low-income women trying to have children or who are already mothers.

Their continuing resolution would cut by 10 percent the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, better known as WIC, which serves 9.6 million low-income women, new mothers, and infants each month, and has been linked in studies to higher birth weight and lower infant mortality.

The G.O.P. bill also slices $50 million from the block grant supporting programs providing prenatal health care to 2.5 million low-income women and health care to 31 million children annually. President Obama’s budget plan for next year calls for a much more modest cut.

These are treacherous times for women’s reproductive rights and access to essential health care. House Republicans mistakenly believe they have a mandate to drastically scale back both even as abortion warfare is accelerating in the states. To stop them, President Obama’s firm leadership will be crucial. So will the rising voices of alarmed Americans.

By Charles M. Blow

Republicans need to figure out where they stand on children’s welfare. They can’t be “pro-life” when the “child” is in the womb but indifferent when it’s in the world. Allow me to illustrate just how schizophrenic their position has become through the prism of premature babies.

Of the 33 countries that the International Monetary Fund describes as “advanced economies,” the United States now has the highest infant mortality rate according to data from the World Bank. It took us decades to arrive at this dubious distinction. In 1960, we were 15th. In 1980, we were 13th. And, in 2000, we were 2nd.

Part of the reason for our poor ranking is that declines in our rates stalled after premature births — a leading cause of infant mortality as well as long-term developmental disabilities — began to rise in the 1990s.

The good news is that last year the National Center for Health Statistics reported that the rate of premature births fell in 2008, representing the first two-year decline in the last 30 years.

Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, the president of the March of Dimes, which in 2003 started a multimillion-dollar premature birth campaign focusing on awareness and education, has said of the decline: “The policy changes and programs to prevent preterm birth that our volunteers and staff have worked so hard to bring about are starting to pay off.”

The bad news is that, according to the March of Dimes, the Republican budget passed in the House this month could do great damage to this progress. The budget proposes:

• $50 million in cuts to the Maternal and Child Health Block Grant that “supports state-based prenatal care programs and services for children with special needs.”

• $1 billion in cuts to programs at the National Institutes of Health that support “lifesaving biomedical research aimed at finding the causes and developing strategies for preventing preterm birth.”

• Nearly $1 billion in cuts to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for its preventive health programs, including to its preterm birth studies.

This is the same budget in which House Republicans voted to strip all federal financing for Planned Parenthood.

It is savagely immoral and profoundly inconsistent to insist that women endure unwanted — and in some cases dangerous — pregnancies for the sake of “unborn children,” then eliminate financing designed to prevent those children from being delivered prematurely, rendering them the most fragile and vulnerable of newborns. How is this humane?

And it doesn’t even make economic sense. A 2006 study by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies estimated that premature births cost the country at least $26 billion a year. At that rate, reducing the number of premature births by just 10 percent would save thousands of babies and $2.6 billion — more than the proposed cuts to the programs listed, programs that also provide a wide variety of other services.

This type of budgetary policy is penny-wise and pound-foolish — and ultimately deadly. Think about that the next time you hear Republican representatives tout their “pro-life” bona fides. Think about that the next time someone uses the heinous term “baby killer.”

See how the United States’s infant mortality rate compares to other “advanced economies.”

Researchers from the National Institutes of Health have found that less than an hour of cellphone use can speed up brain activity in the area closest to the phone antenna, raising new questions about the health effects of low levels of radiation emitted from cellphones.

The researchers, led by Dr. Nora D. Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, urged caution in interpreting the findings because it is not known whether the changes, which were seen in brain scans, have any meaningful effect on a person’s overall health.

But the study, published Wednesday in The Journal of the American Medical Association, is among the first and largest to document that the weak radio-frequency signals from cellphones have the potential to alter brain activity.

“The study is important because it documents that the human brain is sensitive to the electromagnetic radiation that is emitted by cellphones,” Dr. Volkow said. “It also highlights the importance of doing studies to address the question of whether there are — or are not — long-lasting consequences of repeated stimulation, of getting exposed over five, 10 or 15 years.”

Although preliminary, the findings are certain to reignite a debate about the safety of cellphones. A few observational studies have suggested a link between heavy cellphone use and rare brain tumors, but the bulk of the available scientific evidence shows no added risk. Major medical groups have said that cellphones are safe, but some top doctors, including the former director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Center and prominent neurosurgeons, have urged the use of headsets as a precaution.

Dr. Volkow said that the latest research is preliminary and does not address questions about cancer or other heath issues, but it does raise new questions about potential areas of research to better understand the health implications of increased brain activity resulting from cellphone use.

“Unfortunately this particular study does not enlighten us in terms of whether this is detrimental or if it could even be beneficial,” Dr. Volkow said. “It just tells us that even though these are weak signals, the human brain is activated by them.”

Most major medical groups, including the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute and the Food and Drug Administration, have said the existing data on cellphones and health has been reassuring, particularly a major European study released last year by the World Health Organization that found no increased risk of rare brain tumors among cellphone users.

When asked to comment on the latest study, the leading industry trade group, CTIA – The Wireless Association, released a statement emphasizing recent studies that have shown no elevated cancer risk associated with cellphone use.

“The peer-reviewed scientific evidence has overwhelmingly indicated that wireless devices, within the limits established by the F.C.C., do not pose a public health risk or cause any adverse health effects,” said John Walls, vice president of public affairs for the trade group, adding that leading global health groups “all have concurred that wireless devices are not a public health risk.”

But the new research differed from the large observational studies that have been conducted to study cellphone use. In Dr. Volkow’s study, the researchers used brain scans to directly measure how the electromagnetic radiation emitted from cellphones affected brain activity..

The randomized study, conducted in 2009, asked 47 participants to undergo positron emission tomography — or PET — scans, which measure brain glucose metabolism, a marker of brain activity. Each study subject was fitted with a cellphone on each ear and then underwent two 50-minute scans.

During one scan, the cellphones were turned off, but during the other scan, the phone on the right ear was activated to receive a call from a recorded message, although the sound was turned off to avoid auditory stimulation.

Whether the phone was on or off did not affect the overall metabolism of the brain, but the scans did show a 7 percent increase in activity in the part of the brain closest to the antenna when the right phone was turned on. The finding was highly statistically significant, the researchers said. They said the activity was unlikely to be associated with heat from the phone because it occurred near the antenna rather than where the phone touched the head.

In the past, any concerns about the health effects of cellphones have been largely dismissed because the radiofrequency waves emitted from the devices are believed to be benign. Cellphones emit nonionizing radiation, waves of energy that are too weak to break chemical bonds or to set off the DNA damage known to cause cancers. Scientists have said repeatedly that there is no known biological mechanism to explain how nonionizing radiation might lead to cancer or other health problems.

But the new study opens up an entirely new potential area of research. Although an increase in brain glucose metabolism happens during normal brain function, the question is whether repeated artificial stimulation as a result of exposure to electromagnetic radiation might have a detrimental effect.

Although speculative, one theory about how an artificial increase in brain glucose metabolism could be harmful is that it could potentially lead to the creation of molecules called free radicals, which in excess can damage healthy cells. Or it may be that repeated stimulation by electromagnetic radiation could set off an inflammatory response, which studies suggest is associated with a number of heath problems, including cancer.

Among cancer researchers and others interested in the health effects of cellphones, the study, listed in the medical journal under the heading “Preliminary Communications,” was met with enthusiasm because of the credibility of the researchers behind it and the careful methods used.

“It’s a high-quality team, well regarded, and if nothing else they’re showing that radiation is doing something in the brain,” said Louis Slesin, editor of Microwave News, a newsletter on the health effects of electromagnetic radiation. “The dogma in the cellphone community says that it doesn’t do anything. What she’s shown is that it does do something, and the next thing to find out is what it’s doing and whether it’s causing harm.”

Dr. Ronald B. Herberman, former director of the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and now chief medical officer for the Intrexon Corporation, a biotechnology company in Germantown, Md., said, “I think it’s a very well-designed study, and they have clearly shown that there is biologic activity being induced in the nerve cells in the region where the antenna is the closest.” Dr. Herberman said skeptics about the risks of cellphones have focused on the fact that the type of radiation they emit is too weak to break chemical bonds and cannot plausibly be implicated in cancer. However, the new research suggests a potentially different pathway for cancer and other health problems to develop.

“I think it’s an important new direction to go in for biologists to start delving deeper into sorting out what might be going on,” Dr. Herberman said.

In an editorial accompanying the Journal article, Henry C. Lai, a University of Washington professor of bioengineering who has long raised concerns about cellphone safety, said he hoped the data would broaden the focus of cellphone research and health.

“The bottom line is that it adds to the concern that cellphone use could be a health hazard,” said Dr. Lai. “Everybody is worried about brain cancer, and the jury is still out on that question. There are actually quite a lot of studies showing cellphone radiation associated with other events, like sleep disturbances. But people have not been paying a lot of attention to these other types of studies.”

Dr. Volkow said future research may even show that the electromagnetic waves emitted from cellphones could be used to stimulate the brain for therapeutic reasons. She said the research should not set off alarms about cellphone use because simple precautions like using a headset or earpiece can alleviate any concern.

“It does not in any way preclude or decrease my cellphone utilization,” she said.

The vast majority of us take our breathing for granted and do not consider individuals that have asthma and how they feel when they have an attack and cannot breath. It can be quite terrifying to say the least for it quickly brings on the feeling of suffocating. Despite the importance of magnesium in lung physiology, its efficacy in helping asthmatics control and even eliminate their symptoms is typically and tragically ignored.

Typical Asthma medications may have saved a person’s day many times but their actions come with a steep price. The more you use these medications the more a person becomes subjected to their side effects. It should be obvious that when magnesium deficiencies are not addressed the need for pharmaceutical asthma medications will increase leaving a person or child even more vulnerable. Magnesium losses are notorious for occurring as a result of the drugs used specifically for asthma that open airways and reduce inflammation.

A very recent study published in the Journal of Asthma (Kazaks et al, 2010), studied the effect of six months of magnesium supplementation (170 mg taken twice daily with food) on pulmonary function tests, asthma control, and quality of life in patients with mild to moderate asthma. The authors found that 6 month supplementation with magnesium improved objective measures of asthma (PFT) along with subjective measures of quality of life and asthma control.

Increasingly we see evidence of the effects of magnesium deficiency in childhood with epidemiological studies showing that patients with asthma with lower levels of magnesium than healthy controls. Research published in the American Journal of Epidemiology in 2002 showed that when the diets of 2,566 children ages 11-19 were studied, less than 14 percent of boys and 12 percent of girls had adequate intakes of magnesium. Low magnesium intake was associated with lower measures of several lung functions (including lung capacity and airway flow).

In a study conducted at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, researchers found that laboratory animals severely deficient in magnesium had much higher blood levels of histamine when exposed to substances that trigger allergies than animals getting sufficient magnesium. “The flow of calcium into and out of a cell helps regulate some cell function,” explains Dr. Kay Franz, one the study’s authors. “So it’s possible that a magnesium deficiency changes the permeability of mast cell membranes, allowing calcium to more easily enter cells. When that happens, histamine is released. In animals, magnesium deficiency causes the release of substances that can act on immune cells such as mast cells and basophils and make them hyperactive—more likely to release histamine,” he says. Magnesium deficiency also causes other immune responses in the body that can lead to severe and sometimes lethal consequences.

A person suffering an Asthma attack has certain characteristics that nearly all suffers will have including inflamed walls of the lungs which get filled with sticky thick mucus which makes breathing a difficult act. This respiratory problem is an inflammatory condition and magnesium is the most basic anti-inflammatory.

Many asthma sufferers use two types of asthma medication routinely – one to deal with the inflammation over the long term and the other is an everyday asthma intervention like an inhalator for more immediate use but neither addresses any of the causes of asthma meaning they do not offer any cure.

Asthma and Allergies

The relationship between asthma and allergies is a strong one. Asthma is often triggered by allergies of all kinds—food allergies, pollutants, dust, mold, chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs. “Magnesium deficiency definitely accentuates the allergic situation,” says Terry M. Phillips, D.Sc. Ph.D., director of the immunogenetics and immunochemistry laboratory at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and author of Winning the War Within.

People with the digestive disorder known as celiac disease are more likely to develop another disorder involving the immune system: asthma, according to a new study. Specifically, a group of European researchers found that people with celiac disease were 60 percent more likely to develop asthma, relative to those without celiac. Indeed, for every 100,000 people with celiac disease, 147 will have asthma that would not have occurred in the absence of the digestive disorder. Those diagnosed with asthma were also more likely to eventually develop celiac disease, the authors report in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Pediatric Concerns

Dr. Allan Becker at the University of Manitoba looked at 14,000 boys and girls born in 1995 and found that as many as 14 percent had asthma. “We’re talking about one in seven children—that’s a huge proportion of the pediatric population,” Becker says. “It’s in every classroom, every school, and many, many families. It’s huge.” This reality is reflected in the population at large. Asthma affects about three million people in this country, six out of 10 of whom do not have control of their disease, according to the Asthma Society of Canada. It kills 500 people in Canada each year and 5,000 in the U.S. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization says 150 million people around the world have asthma and over 180,000 die annually as a result of it.

Treatments

By employing transdermal and oral magnesium, and glutathione mixed with sodium bicarbonate via nebulization an asthma sufferer will need less medication for these medicinals will diminish the lung inflammation and help natural breathing. Acupuncture is another approach that often yields good results even in the middle of an asthmatic crisis. Increasing magnesium levels can help prevent allergy and asthma attacks. Increasing a person’s or child’s magnesium intake can make a big difference in not only overall heath but also prevent allergies and asthma. Maintaining proper levels of magnesium in the body helps by relaxing airway smooth muscle and dilating bronchioles in the lungs. It also reduces histamine release and inflammation of the airways and lungs by stabilizing mast cells and T- lymphocytes.

In an asthma attack, the airways (passages to the lungs) narrow from muscle spasms and swelling (inflammation). Bronchodilator drugs (reliever inhalers) can be used to relax the muscles and open the airways, and corticosteroid drugs to reduce the inflammation. But magnesium sulfate or magnesium chloride are also considered drug when administered in hospitals via injection or IV drip. Magnesium also affects muscles and reduces inflammation as well but without the dangers and side effects of these pharmaceuticals. Among asthmatics with acute exacerbation of asthma, intravenous (IV) administration of magnesium sulfate may improve bronchodilation and improve airflow. For patients with the most severe airflow obstruction, IV magnesium sulfate appears to provide important clinical benefits, including a lower rate of hospital admission from the emergency department. Magnesium has been used in hospitals to help relieve the symptoms of life-threatening, drug-resistant asthma attacks and to diminish the effects of the asthma drugs used.,

Swine flu is a respiratory illness in pigs caused by a virus. Mexico’s government is ordering closed schools nationwide as the suspected death toll from swine flu climbed to 149. Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordova says only 20 of the deaths have been confirmed to be from swine flu and the government was awaiting tests results on the rest. He says 1,995 have been hospitalized with serious cases of pneumonia since the first case of swine flu was reported on April 13. Alarmingly, the flu outbreak in Mexico is striking healthy young people — a pattern that would be expected if a flu virus new to humans emerged.

Nations from New Zealand to France reported new suspected cases.
Governments including China, Russia and Taiwan have begun planning
to put anyone with symptoms of the deadly virus under quarantine.

Officials in Mexico and the U.S. are taking emergency steps to contain what is believed to be a new multi-strain swine flu. “If the confirmed deaths are the first signs of a pandemic, then cases are probably incubating around the world by now,” said Dr. Michael Osterholm, a pandemic flu expert at the University of Minnesota. The Mexican Swine Flu has elements of DNA from the following: avian flu, human flu Type A, human flu Type B, Asian swine flu, and European swine flu. Human and animal viruses from four or more continents suddenly recombine in a new flu during a non-flu season that spreads from human-to-human with a 10% fatality rating.1 Just last month Baxter Pharmaceuticals was caught shipping a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and unlabelled H5N1 viruses. Baxter released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria, which contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses. 2

In Mexico City children rarely use the color blue when they paint the sky. The atmospheric pollution in the Mexican capital, one of the world’s biggest cities, is one of the most severe air pollution cases in the world. Contaminated air hangs over its population of more than 20 million people doing damage to children’s lungs causing chronic lung diseases when they are adults. Perched at 7,300 feet in a bowl-shaped valley where the air is thin, vehicle fumes get trapped and you might as well be living in a gas chamber. It is that bad and this explains in part why we are finding deaths from the flu concentrated there with no deaths reported outside of Mexico to this date. Even the healthy are sick. Full of toxins, they are medically speaking “accidents waiting to happen,” so when a strong flu strain strikes such a population the death rate will be very high. The cause of death is debatable!

Should there be a pandemic — something that is far from certain — the CDC has already begun work on a vaccine, which should be ready by October, entirely too late to protect people from the present threat. Flu vaccines in general often fail miserably to protect old, young and healthy alike so there is really no loss from the delay.

There are four different drugs approved in the U.S. to treat the flu, but the new virus has shown resistance to the two oldest. The CDC recommends the use of the flu drugs Tamiflu and Relenza. Both drugs 3 must be taken early, within a few days of the onset of symptoms, to be most effective though we already know that Tamiflu is deadly in and of itself so its only advantage is to those who make money from it. So basically the western medical establishment has no solution and offers no real help.

Infections cannot be separated from the conditions that
invite pathogens to proliferate. This seems to boggle the
minds of orthodox medical scientists, who like the blind men
and the elephant, seem to be able to focus on one thing at a time.

We live in a dangerous world and anything that throws us out of balance invites pathogens to take up residence in our bodies. If this is the beginning of the pandemic that health officials have been warning about it is best to begin preparing your body before the flu strikes. This article offers natural emergency medicine that addresses both the body’s terrain and the potential pathogens quickly. Starting with the most basic medicine, we need to address dehydration and the use of water and mineral salts as medicines first.

Dehydration Dangers

Complications of flu can include bacterial pneumonia, ear infections, sinus infections, dehydration, and worsening of chronic medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, asthma, or diabetes. Many underestimate seasonal flu’s severity and neglect treating dehydration, a survey of U.S. physicians and consumers found. Fifty-seven percent of doctors surveyed said they considered dehydration the single most dangerous flu side effect. “Severe flu symptoms like fever and body aches often keep patients from taking in adequate fluids,” said Dr. Leanne M. Chrisman-Khawam of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. “By managing symptoms, one will be more likely to manage their dehydration as well.”4

Dehydration is one of the most overlooked and basic causes of disease. Physicians rarely prescribe water, and you’ll never hear of a pharmaceutical firm recommending it, but water can prevent and cure many common conditions because it is a basic or underlying cause of disease. According to a study published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, more than 70% of preschool children never drink plain water. Pediatric medicine does not pay attention enough to dehydration that occurs when acute diseases strike5 and children can pay with their life for this. The fact that one of the most common lawsuits in pediatric emergency room medicine is overlooking dehydration tells us of a gapping hole in pediatric medicine that need not be there.

The blood is 80 percent water thus hydration levels are extremely important in blood chemistry. Moderate dehydration, a 3-5% decrease in body weight due to fluid loss is sufficient to result in a substantial decrease in strength and endurance because of the decrease in oxygen carrying capacity of the blood signaling a drop in Zeta potential. Proper hydration is thus the most basic preventative medicine against death from any type of flu.

Mercury Exposure = Increased Vulnerability

Chronic mercury exposure is also a threat to our health and makes us especially vulnerable to flu infections. It has been shown that “prolonged exposure of mammals (white mice) to low mercury concentrations (0.008 – 0.02 mg/m3) leads to a significant increase in the susceptibility of mice to pathological influenza virus strains. This is shown by more severe course of infection. In the experimental group more mice died (86 – 90.3 %) than in the unexposed animals (60.2 – 68 %), additionally the experimental group died more quickly. The significant difference was in the appearance and degree of pneumonia in the effected animals,” wrote Dr. I. M. Trakhtenberg in Chronic Effects of Mercury on Organisms.6

Though everyone in the northern hemisphere is contaminated with mercury health officials have a mental block against suggesting anything that might reduce total mercury body burden. Though some dedicated health activists are cracking the FDA’s endorsement of mercury dental amalgam it will take a Martian death ray to get them to protect the public from the obvious. Natural chelation methods work safely to remove mercury but unfortunately, if this is the dreaded flu outbreak, there will be little time to reduce mercury levels. Much can still be accomplished with the emergency protocol suggested below. Mercury exposure will make flu symptoms worse and even more dangerous, and that is one reason the flu vaccine is deadly because most brands include thimerosal, which almost fifty percent mercury.

Several other mercury fighters have a place in the flu battlefield. In addition to binding mercury into a fairly harmless complex, selenium is a very good inflammation fighter even in small concentrations. N-acetyl L-cysteine, an antioxidant and glutathione precursor, stimulates production of this master antioxidant and, among other things, boosts the immune system and has anti-inflammatory properties. Alpha-lipoic acid, another mercury mover, acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent, while protecting the mitochondria and reducing cellular inflammation. Learn about them before you need them and add them to your medicine kit now.

Iodine, the Universal Pathogen Killer

As early as June 1, 1905 an article was printed in the New York Times 7 about the successful use of iodine for consumption/tuberculosis. Though iodine kills most pathogens on the skin within 90 seconds, its use as an antibiotic/antiviral/antifungal has been completely ignored by modern medicine. Iodine exhibits activity against bacteria, molds, yeasts, protozoa, and many viruses; indeed, of all antiseptic preparations suitable for direct use on humans and animals and upon tissues, only iodine is capable of killing all classes of pathogens: gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, yeasts, viruses and protozoa. Most bacteria are killed within 15 to 30 seconds of contact.

Iodine is by far the best antibiotic,
antiviral and antiseptic of all time.
Dr. David Derry

Dr. Derry says iodine is effective “for standard pathogens such as Staphylococcus, but also iodine has the broadest range of action, fewest side effects and no development of bacterial resistance.” Some doctors have reported that it is excellent for the treatment of mononucleosis. Iodine kills single-celled organisms by combining with the amino acids tyrosine or histidine when exposed to the extracellular environment. All single cells (pathogens) showing tyrosine on their outer cell membranes are killed instantly by a simple chemical reaction with iodine that denatures proteins. Nature and evolution have given us an important mechanism to control pathogenic life forms, and we should use it and trust it to protect us in ways that antibiotics cannot.

Dr. David Brownstein, author of Iodine – Why You Need It, uses iodine extensively in his practice and says, “Iodine is a wonderful antibiotic solution without question and most importantly I never see any of my patients complain of dysbiotic reactions from its use.” Because drug-resistant micro-organisms continue to emerge and the number of patients susceptible to these infections is increasing dramatically an approach that utilizes the innate powers of the immune system as a therapeutic agent will have the greatest benefit to sick patients. The body’s ability to resist infection and disease is hindered by long-term deficiency in essential vitamins and minerals including that of iodine. Poor immune response is correlated with impaired thyroid function; a deficiency in iodine can greatly affect the immune system because low levels of iodine lead to problems with the thyroid gland. 8

I personally talked to a missionary, Stephen Fisher, in Zambia on the phone last year who told me about his very successful use of iodine to treat people with malaria. He used 20 drops of Nascent Iodine in a half glass of water given 4 or 5 times during the first day and then decreased the dose to 10 drops of Nascent Iodine 4 times a day for 3 more days, although higher dosages can be administered for much longer since iodine is a nutritional medicine that is needed by the body. Such a protocol can be used for the swine flu or any other type of influenza. Brownstein and others use much higher dosages of other iodine forms, namely Lugol’s 9 and Iodoral for cancer treatment. If you are interested in high dose usage, please read one of the books by Dr. Brownstein or myself for more details on how to do so.

The minimum number of iodine molecules required to destroy one bacterium varies with the species. For H. influenzae it was calculated to be 15000 molecules of iodine per cell. When bacteria are treated with iodine, the inorganic phosphate up-take and oxygen consumption by the cells immediately ceases. Thus the antiseptic properties of iodine are used to sterilize every surface and material in hospitals. Iodine is an excellent microbicide with a broad range of action that includes almost all of the important health-related microorganisms, such as enteric bacteria, enteric viruses, bacterial viruses, fungi and protozoan cysts.10

The tremendous diversity and mutability of many infections and their ability to intelligently exploit the cells is one of the main reasons we should return to iodine as our favored broad spectrum antibiotic, anti-viral and anti fungal agent. Iodine provides us with a safe way to strengthen innate responses to invading microbes while simultaneously correcting or eliminating a basic nutritional deficiency that causes immunological unresponsiveness.

Iodine is able to penetrate quickly
through the cell walls of microorganisms.

Iodine is a deadly enemy of single cell microorganisms thus it can be our best friend in our fight against the most dangerous pathogens. Nature and evolution have given us an important mechanism to control pathogenic life forms and we should use it and trust it to protect us in ways that antibiotics can’t.

Dr. David Brownstein, one of a core group of iodine doctors had very kind words to say about my Iodine – Bringing Back the Universal Medicine book. “Dr. Sircus has done it again. He has written a wonderful book on iodine that shows the benefits of iodine for treating a wide range of disorders and how you can incorporate iodine into your daily lifestyle. This book should be in everyone’s library.” I would say the same about his book, which inspired my deeper study into the applications of Iodine.

An Important Note: Supplies of drinkable iodine are severely limited and unavailable in most parts of the world. It would be wise to stock up on both Nascent Iodine as well as Lugol’s. For those who can only get the inexpensive iodine at the drug store meant for cuts and bruises, know that you can paint the body with it quite heavily and frequently to get iodine into the body. Just monitor the skin for any reactions with small area applications first.

Influenza, Inflammation, and the Role of Magnesium

What makes avian-derived H5N1 strains, and the influenza strain underlying the 1918–1919 human pandemic so virulent is viral triggering of cytokine-mediated lung inflammation. Inflammation is the activation of the immune system in response to infection, irritation, or injury. Characterized by an influx of white blood cells, redness, heat, swelling, pain, and dysfunction of the organs involved, inflammation has different names when it appears in different parts of the body. Magnesium is central to immunocompetence, and plays a crucial role in natural and adaptive immunity in great part because of its dominance over the inflammatory response.11

Magnesium is at the heart of the inflammatory process, it is the prime first cause when it is not present in sufficient quantities. Increases in extracellular magnesium concentration cause a decrease in the inflammatory response while reduction in the extracellular magnesium results in inflammation. Magnesium literally puts the chill on inflammation especially when used transdermally. “Magnesium deficiency induces a systemic stress response by activation of neuro endocrinological pathways,” writes Dr. Mazur. “Magnesium deficiency contributes to an exaggerated response to immune stress and oxidative stress is the consequence of the inflammatory response,” he continued.

A little bit of magnesium chloride can be added to the drinking water (the same as sodium bicarbonate mentioned in the next section). But both can be introduced in much greater dosages and concentration in baths to bypass digestive systems that may not be working properly. Many already know of the transdermal effect of magnesium chloride and magnesium sulfate. One can also apply both ‘magnesium oil’ and a self-made lotion of sodium bicarbonate to the skin for rapid absorption and this is most helpful for children. All can be put into a sterile solution and nebulized directly into the lungs if inflammation becomes life threatening. When all else fails, physicians can get both magnesium and sodium bicarbonate into the body with IVs.

Most people and children are already magnesium deficient, which would naturally increase complications or the possibility risk of death from influenza. Everything mentioned in this basic emergency protocol is preventive and can be started immediately. Don’t wait for the WHO to officially announce an international pandemic before you stock your emergency kit with the basics.

Sodium Bicarbonate

Using bicarbonate to change blood and full body pH is going to shift the environment of most pathogens making it more uncomfortable for them to inhabit a host. Malaria and influenza are often associated with abnormalities of fluid, electrolytes and the acid-base balance. Sodium bicarbonate is very useful and should not be overlooked just because it is one of the most simple medicines and food items you can buy in the supermarket.

Fluid and electrolyte imbalances easily occur in anybody with a severe flu. This is common in severe malaria, extremes of age, young children, malnutrition, and patients with high degree of fever and vomiting/diarrhea.

Sodium bicarbonate can be administered orally every two hours and can be put in the baths as well as mixed with mineral water to make a lotion. For oral use, Bob’s Red Mill Sodium Bicarbonate is the best but for baths the old Arm and Hammer product is fine. Sodium bicarbonate buffers and defends us from a host of complications, and is even used in chemotherapy to protect patients from the toxic effects of dangerous drugs.

Sodium bicarbonate along with magnesium chloride are workhorse medicines that are extremely useful in most all clinical situations. Certainly they are useful together in infectious diseases to support both the basic physiology and mitochondrial function.

Vitamin C

One does not have to say much when it comes to the importance of Vitamin C in preparing the body for an aggressive attack of influenza of any type. If vitamin C levels are low, the body will be more vulnerable to complications. Also, an attack of the flu will lower already dangerously depleted vitamin C levels. Whole food vitamin C is often better tolerated than pure ascorbic acid in addition to the fact that whole food vitamin C comes with the necessary co-factors for its efficacy, which ascorbic acid does not.

There are many natural remedies on the market and many wives’s tales –and there is always Mother’s chicken soup! One will find an extensive list of possible herbs, formulas and foods that might help; however, they do not make up a core protocol that one can depend on in an emergency situation that can easily develop with a severe strain of influenza.

The Sun – Strong Medicine against the Flu

Medical scientists have noticed that people with the least D were most likely to have had a recent infection of the upper respiratory tract. We already know that getting plenty of vitamin D — more than diet can offer — appears to provide potent protection against colds, flu and even pneumonia. As the amount of vitamin D circulating in blood climbs, risk of upper respiratory tract infections falls and this is important when strong flu strains strike hard.

Dr. Adit Ginde, an emergency room physician at the University Of Colorado Denver School Of Medicine in Aurora says that in people with lung disease, low levels of the sunshine vitamin “magnify many-fold” the apparent vulnerability to infection seen in people with healthy lungs. Dr. Ginde findings appeared in the Feb. 23 Archives of Internal Medicine and concluded that in every season, people in the lowest vitamin D group were about 36 percent more likely to be suffering a respiratory infection than those in the highest group.

Grind’s study showed that low levels of vitamin D more than doubled the risk of respiratory infection for people with COPD — and boosted it almost six fold in people with asthma — compared with participants who had normal lung function and were in the highest vitamin D group. What was most disturbing about the findings was that the NHANES data he analyzed had been collected about 15 years ago, when almost twice as many people as today had vitamin D levels above 30 ng/ml. This is a crucial point. We are more vulnerable today then every before to a massive epidemic because we are more toxic and more deficient in crucial vitamins and minerals than at any point in modern history.

One of the most important and misunderstood vitamins is A, and it works hard to keep you healthy with vitamin D when in the right balance. Vitamin A plays a vital regulating role in the immune system also. Vitamin A deficiency leads to a loss of ciliated cells in the lung, an important first line defense against pathogens. Vitamin A promotes mucin secretion and microvilli formation by mucosa, including the gastrointestinal tract mucosa. Vitamin A regulates T-cell production and apoptosis.12

If you are a sun lover, you do not need to take supplemental vitamin D; however you still need to consume adequate vitamin A. Animal studies show that even moderate amounts of vitamin D increase the body’s need for vitamin A, whether the vitamin D is provided in the diet or by UV light. So, if you cut back or eliminate cod liver oil in the summer, you can also consume plenty of oily fish, liver, butterfat and egg yolks from grass-fed hens to ensure adequate vitamin A.13

So throw away your sun screens and get out in the sun when it is high in the sky and roast yourself until slightly pink, and do that perhaps every other day as a replacement for dangerous antiviral medications, along with the rest of the anti-flu protocol. Drink lots of carrot juice with oranges and eat spirulina, which is extraordinarily high in beta-carotene.

In Summary, a Heart Felt Plea

Please, I beg people to be aware that in November of 2005 Japan’s health ministry issued a warning of dangerous behavioral side effects linked to the anti-influenza drug Tamiflu. This came amid reports that several children in Japan died after taking the medication. Dr. Rokuro Hama, head of the Japan Institute of Pharmaco-Vigilance, had investigated eight suspicious deaths of children aged between two and 17, which he thinks are linked to Tamiflu. He reported his findings at a meeting of the Japan Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Investigators say in one case last year, a 17-year-old boy, after taking the medication, left his home during a snowstorm, and jumped in front of a truck and died. Earlier that year, a 14-year-old boy, after taking one Tamiflu capsule, jumped or fell from the ninth floor of an apartment building. Doctors say in both cases the boys had not exhibited any abnormal behavior before taking Tamiflu.14

Drug manufacturer Roche and US regulators have warned that influenza patients treated with oseltamivir (Tamiflu) may have an increased risk of self-injury and delirium. “People with the flu, particularly children, may be at increased risk of self-injury and confusion shortly after taking Tamiflu and should be closely monitored for signs of unusual behavior,” says a warning that Roche has added to its official product information, according to a company letter posted on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Web site.15

Many reputable doctors and health activists are weighing in and we should be very scared for some very good reasons. Read Dr. Sherri Tenpenny’s essay. Read Bill Sardi’s pdf. Read the Huntington Post’s essay on the dire economic effect and the implications of declared health emergencies. The medical industrial complex and governments around the world are ready, willing and able to use this as an excuse to attack the human race with misinformation and extremely dangerous drugs and vaccines. Remember Dr. Eleanor McBean?

Dr. Eleanor McBean, lived through the 1918 Influenza epidemic, and testified, “As far as I could find out, the flu hit only the vaccinated. Those who had refused the shots escaped the flu. My family had refused all the vaccinations so we remained well all the time. There was seven times more disease among the vaccinated soldiers than among the unvaccinated civilians, and the diseases were those they had been vaccinated against.”

Vaccines, especially when given in multiple quantities in one sitting certainly have the potential to throw a person or child’s body out of balance as can nutritional deficiencies, dehydration, lack of exercise 16 or a lack of sun and vitamin D. Almost everyone today is magnesium deficient, certainly every Mexican who eats white rice!

There are many who believe from the depths of their hearts that vaccines are bio weapons of mass destruction, which exist for both pharmaceutical profit and over bloated professional medical egos attached to status and power. No matter what we believe though and no matter what develops over the next few days it would be more than prudent to disseminate this information that will be helpful to both doctors and people facing the current public health crisis.

Heart attack survivors who eat chocolate two or more times per week cut their risk of dying from heart disease about threefold compared to those who never touch the stuff. Smaller quantities confer less protection, but are still better than none, according to the study, which appears in the September 2009 issue of the Journal of Internal Medicine. Earlier research had established a strong link between cocoa-based confections and lowered blood pressure or improvement in blood flow. It had also shown that chocolate cuts the rate of heart-related mortality in healthy older men, along with post-menopausal women. And now research published in May of 2010 in the Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism is saying that something in dark chocolate seems to guard against the damage of a stroke.

One of the most important actions of magnesium
is its vasodilating effects which improves the blood
supply to ischaemic areas and reduces infarct size.

The Journal of Internal Medicine study is the first to demonstrate that consuming chocolate can help ward off death if one has suffered a heart attack. “It seems that antioxidants in cocoa are a likely candidate” is the best Dr. Imre Janszky of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm could come up with for explaining the life-saving properties of chocolate. Dr. Martin Lajous, a doctoral candidate at the Harvard School of Public Health admitted that the protective mechanism by which chocolate might prevent stroke isn’t yet clear. Researchers in the stroke study pegged a flavanol in chocolate called epicatechin as the active agent. It is amazing that none of these researchers fingered magnesium as the main agent in chocolate that has these powerful medical effects.

Magnesium deficiency appears to have caused
eight million sudden coronary deaths in
America during the period 1940-1994.
Paul Mason

Scientists know that women’s bodies are known to crave for chocolate during PMS. Some researchers believe that women crave chocolate prior to menstruation because it contains magnesium. The medical journal for the American Heart Association, created a stir when it reported a study of 22 heart transplant patients who were given a dose of dark chocolate or fake chocolate. Just two hours after eating the real thing, patients had measurable improvements in blood flow and vascular function and less clotting, compared to placebo chocolate eaters, who experienced no change. Chocolate cravings are potentially a sign of a magnesium deficiency for chocolate is high in magnesium.

A ten-year study of 2,182 men in Wales found that those eating
magnesium-low diets had a 50% higher risk of sudden death
from heart attacks than those eating one-third more magnesium.

Though it is widely accepted that chocolate affects our moods few make the correlation between magnesium and chocolate and thus magnesium and emotions. People often report when eating chocolate that their mood is elevated and they feel better. This elevation in mood is temporary though, and when the effect wears off, subjects again reverted to their previous state of mind.

Depression and other emotional disorders of the
heart are addressed most directly with magnesium.

Most would think that chocolate is not high enough in magnesium to be used medicinally and would be undesirable because of the high sugar and fat component of most chocolates but obviously this is not the case. It’s hard to argue with the information that heart attack survivors who eat chocolate only two times per week can cut their risk of dying from heart disease threefold. Now imagine what we can do if we use concentrated forms of magnesium chloride transdermally, orally and even inject it if a person’s life hangs in the balance either in the ambulance or emergency room.

Magnesium is not an option for cardiologists; it’s absolutely necessary for cardiac care. Doctors know how important Oxygen is to life and their heart patients but they keep their heads in the sand refusing to make even the simplest correlations one of which highlights the relationship between magnesium and oxygen carrying capacity of the red blood cells. It is the emergency room intensive care medicine that can be used to great effect during cardiac arrest and stroke.

I have dropped the price of Magnesium – The Ultimate Heart Medicine from $44.90 to $29.90 and this is actually a double volume because it contains all of the material from my other magnesium E-book called Magnesium Medicine. The second edition of my Transdermal Magnesium Therapy book, which is going to the publisher next week draws heavily from both of these E-books. Magnesium should be taken for all conditions of the heart except for when the blood pressure is too low or the threat of kidney failure is present. Since there is no drug that can substitute for magnesium it is indicated for the majority of heart patients. Magnesium, particularly in its chloride form, is the definitive medicine for both the prevention and treatment of heart disease.

I do not recommend eating chocolate in large quantities for obvious reasons. It is infinitely better to absorb magnesium directly through the skin using magnesium oil or magnesium chloride bath flakes (which are on sale by the LL Magnetic Clay Company until Monday for the special 40% pricing on the 32 lb. size of bath flakes. The discount code is “imvabaths.”). In the course of three short months of heavy usage one can bring ones cellular magnesium levels back up to normal, something that takes up to a year or more through oral forms of administration. It is a good idea to stock up on magnesium as well as iodine and sodium bicarbonate for many reasons all rolled up into one.

Today’s children are hit with more shots in a day then most of us were hit with in our entire childhood. No doubt certain pharmaceutical madmen fantasize having a permanent tubular hookup with every child receiving constant (24/7) chemical injection. Pharmaceutical terrorism and medical madness is alive and well in this world of ours and is part of the backbone of our modern civilization.

A careful study of pharmaceutical terrorism entails taking a trip into the darkest places that exist in humanity and it is no accident that when we make the journey we find ourselves in places where doctors and scientists work together as they did in Nazi Germany. This subject takes us to the bottom cellars of hell, into the deepest and darkest dungeon, into a place and into a type of person that defiles the very nature of beauty, love, a place where all human heart is lost. The Nazi doctors offer us a view of monsters that have remained invisible, dressed as they are eternally in three-piece suits or white lab coats.

Let’s face it, our children’s lives have been ruined.
Have you ever lived with a family that has a child
with Thimerosal-induced autism? It’s not pretty.
Not only do many of these children have no lives
but they live in a daily hell that many cannot
even begin to imagine. They can’t sleep. They
can’t communicate. They bang their heads and
roll up in pain. Many have eating disorders or
cannot tolerate most foods. And many are
easy targets of sexual predators.
Lori McIlwain

There is a direct line of continuity that can be traced between a group of men and companies that arose to the heights of industrial power years before Hitler, men and companies who existed and supported the rise of Nazi Germany, and who continued on to the present day in comfortable corporate luxury and power. (The personnel, infrastructure and technology of companies like Bayer, for example, have flowed on continuously through 3 incarnations of corporate name and structure.) The greatest criminals in the history of the world actually were not these Nazi doctors; they were and still are the people who populate the top hierarchies of the giant pharmaceutical and chemical companies of the world and the men and woman who work for them shuffling back and forth between these companies and the CDC and FDA in the United States. Yet most of these men, like many before them, will plead complete ignorance to all harm that they are doing. I published many stories like the following in my free eBook The Terror of Pediatric Medicine.

Bayer experimental drugs were tested on
Auschwitz prisoners. One of the SS doctors at
Auschwitz, Dr. Helmut Vetter, a longtime Bayer
employee, was involved in the testing of Bayer
experimental vaccines and medicines on inmates.
He was later executed for giving inmates fatal
injections. “I have thrown myself into my work
wholeheartedly,” he wrote to his bosses at Bayer
headquarters. “Especially as I have the opportunity
to test our new preparations. I feel like I am in paradise.”

More information on this is available in the Humane Pediatrics Book.
